Self Defense Essentials

Everyone deserves to feel safe. This two-hour workshop will focus on practical self defense skills applicable to your daily life. This is an inclusive, trauma-informed training open to all ability levels that will cover core safety concepts, breakfalls, movement & blocking, defensive strikes, and contextualizing the skills to your life. Depending on the needs in the room, a specialty topic can be chosen for the end of the workshop (escape from bear hugs, escape from hair grabs, use of common objects, etc.) No gear needed. Wear clothes you can move in. If you’ve been wanting to learn some essential fundamentals or refresh your skills, this is for you!

Self Defense for Sport Fighters

These two hour workshops focus on self defense theory & practice relevant to sport fighters who are ready to explore the application of their sport fighting skills in response to real world violence. Topics will include: situational awareness, assessing a threat, application of practical skills, de-escalation strategies, considerations for use of physical force, physical practice, common scenarios, live drilling, and more. We will choose a focus for the workshop in advance:

  1. Multiple attackers

  2. Defense against blades

  3. Response to hand guns

Other topics available upon request. Defense against blades requires every participant to wear a white shirt that can be stained. Mouth guard and groin guard recommended but not required.

Note: While this is an open level workshop, it is intended specifically for those who regularly train in at least one combat sport.

We all deserve safe, supportive relationships in our lives. Unfortunately, dating violence, intimate partner violence, and domestic violence are all too common experiences for many of us. This workshop covers healthy communication, boundary setting, signs of an unsafe situation, defense against chokes, and strategies to defend yourself against sexual assault. We will also hold time to discuss the reality of experiencing sexual violence and share resources to seek support or further information. This workshop is open to all adults and teens with consent from a parent or guardian.
